Frequently Asked Questions
What is counselling
Counselling is a talking therapy which is aimed at helping individuals deal with any emotional difficulties that they are facing. It is a place where you can come, where you will not be judged and your counsellor will do everything they can, to see the world from your eyes and help you make sense of the world around you. Together, with your counsellor, you will explore in depth the true inner meaning of your difficulties
Are Counsellors Qualified
Currently there are no laws governing individuals practising as counsellors however, guidelines recommend that all counsellors should be suitably qualified and have gained 400 hours of therapy training. Even though there is no legal obligation for counsellors to join any organisations, membership of such organisations demonstrate a commitment to good ethical practise. By choosing a counsellor who is registered with a governing body you can be rest assured that your counsellor meets the high standards set by that governing body. Here at Lighthouse Therapy Group we recognise the importance of following a set of ethical guidelines which is why we are proud members of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. In addition to this all our counsellors are qualified to degree level and are working on their full Batchelor of Arts in counselling.
How Long Is A Session
A counselling session will last between 50 – 60 minutes.
Is Counselling Confidential
Counselling is completely confidential and your counsellor will explain all the limits to confidentiality. Anything you do say will be regarded as confidential unless the counsellor feels that you are at risk of harm or they think you could harm others in which case they would inform you that they will take appropriate action to protect yourself and others.
How Do I Choose The Right Counsellor For Me
The counselling relationship is the very bedrock of the therapeutic relationship and you are free to choose whichever counsellor you feel most comfortable with. Counselling works best when both parties are completely open and honest with each other so if it any time you feel the relationship is not working then you are more than welcome to discuss this and look at changing counsellors. Here at Lighthouse Therapy Group we offer a completely free, no obligation initial consultation to find out if the counselling relationship could work.
